Why Choose a Power Wheelchair?

Struggling with mobility can be an isolating experience that has a profound impact on not just your physical health, but your mental health, too. That's why a power wheelchair from the team at American Medical Equipment can be such a powerful tool. Our wheelchairs help you take back your mobility and give you back the power to participate in your life. The Steps to Getting Your Wheelchair

Unfortunately getting your new power wheelchair isn't an instant process. There are several steps you and your healthcare team will need to take in order to get you the equipment you need. Here's a rundown of the process:

  • Step 1: Talk to your physician and have them write a prescription for a mobility evaluation and your diagnosis
  • Step 2: Have your doctor's office fax that prescription to our team at 901-384-9587 or 901-328-5546
  • Step 3: We'll have a physical therapist and mobility specialist come to your home for the mobility evaluation
  • Step 4: The result of the mobility evaluation will be sent to your physician. If they concur, they'll need to sign the evaluation and fax it back to us
  • Step 5: We'll send the prescription and signed evaluation to your insurance for authorization
  • Step 6: We can place an order for your power wheelchair from the manufacturer
  • Step 7: Once insurance has been approved, we can deliver your chair within 30-45 days with instructions on proper use

For physicians who are looking to order a wheelchair for their patient, American Medical Equipment makes the process simple! Just write a prescription for a "Mobility Evaluation" with the patient's diagnosis and any documents from their chart. Then have your staff fax that information to our team at 901-384-9587 or 901-328-5546.
